Summertime is Exercise Time

It finally happened. The temperatures that were so perfect for such a short time in the late days of spring have now shot up to the territory of unpleasantness. That, however, cannot be an excuse not to find some form of activity that will burn calories and reduce stress. In the early morning hours before the sun comes up some of the smart individuals are hitting the streets garbed in their favorite cycling jerseys and peddling off those unwanted pounds. Others can be seen clocking a few miles walking or jogging either solo or in small groups. For those who didn’t manage to get out of the house before the sun starts to bear down, many find their way to the gym for some type of workout. Whatever the time of day, or method of exercise one chooses, the important thing is to “just do it” like the Nike ad suggests. While we love summer, the heat can tend to make one a bit lethargic so it takes some advance planning and real commitment to keep exercise part of the daily routine. It’s worth it though and not only for keeping the body in shape but for the mental benefits as well.
