Tennis World Is In Full Swing

Posted by

The Australian Open is under way in Melbourne and while some long time favorites continue their winning ways, at least one star is using this stage to re-emerge on to the scene. Justine Henin who left the sport in 2008 while owning the number one ranking is back swinging.  The seven time Grand Slam winner beat number 5 ranked Alisa Kleybanova  in a hard fought victory on Wednesday then proceeded to come up with another win against Alisa Kleybanova assuring a fourth round appearance.

Meanwhile, Switzerlands top ranking Roger Federer, considered by many to the “the king” met with royalty of another type as Britains’ prince William was onhand at the tournament site for a visit.   Federer easily beat out Victor Hanescu on Thursday.

American Andy Roddick delivered up a win against Feliciano Lopez of Spain.  It is nice to see the former first place Roddick returning in good form after losing at last years Wimbleton to Federer.  Hopefully good things await him this year.

Venus Williams is poised to battle Carla Suarez of Spain (the rival who beat her out in the second round last year.)  We are hoping for a solid victory for Venus this time around.
