The Australian Open Wraps Up

The Australian Open is now in the history books with the two leading characters being Serena Williams and Roger Federer.
In the women’s match-up, Serena left little doubt about the intensity of her play and her desire and determination to get the victory. If she, herself, had any personal doubts they were quickly erased when she heard a taunt from a spectator in the crowd which spurred her to step it up and never look back. She dispatched Justine Henin 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. It was Henin’s first Grand Slam and only her second tournament since abruptly walking away from the game in 2008. This win marks Serena’s third Major in the last year and bringing the total to 12.
Roger Federer and Andy Murray battled it out for the men’s trophy with Federer coming out on top very convincingly with scores of 6-3, 6-4, 7-6. A number of tennis experts didn’t figure Roger for the win this year at Melbourne after losing in the U.S. Open Final but he gave them cause for new appreciation of his abilities and his drive.
