Unanswered Questions As BYU Football Season Begins

Today marks the season opener for BYU football as the team will match up against Washington at LaVell Edwards stadium. Though a lot of things have been decided in the past couple of days, such as the fact that BYU will be leaving the Mountain West Conference and going independent, there are still some things that have yet to be sorted out. For instance, which young man is going to prove to be the go-to quarterback for the Y or are both Riley Nelson and Jake Heaps going to get equal playing time? Nelson is expected to start the game today and then it’s anybodies guess as to how the rest of the game will play out. Then there is the question of who and how effective their tight ends will be in today’s game. There are a lot of variables that have yet to come together for the Cougars so today’s game should prove to be quite interesting. Another thing that is interesting about today’s game is the fact that the head coach for the Washington Huskies is former BYU quarterback Steve Sarkisian who played for the school in the mid 1990’s. Make no mistake, the Huskies have become a much better team than they were for much of the past decade, especially with the capable skills of Heisman Trophy candidate Jake Locker at the quarterback position. That means that the Cougars are going to have their work cut out for them this afternoon and they will need to bring their A game to get the season started off right.
