One might think that it would take a lot of training to become a proficient football kicker and for most people that is true. However in the case of the Utah Ute kicker, Andy Phillips, the absence of training seemed to be no deterrent at all. Phillips, who wears the red Ute football uniform with pride, claims to have never even played the game before. Even so, he is having a dynamite beginning to the sport making all 11 of his field goal attempts so far this season. He has also made all 27 PATs that he attempted. That excellence has not gone unnoticed and in fact has earned him All-American recognition from ESPN.com. In addition, he was listed as a Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the week. Not too bad for someone with no experience in the game. Phillips remained humble and grateful for the recognition he is receiving and parlayed a lot of the credit to his entire team. Sounds like the kind of guy any team would be lucky to have on their squad.
