Serena Williams Opts Out Of U.S. Open

Due to an injured foot, Serena Williams decided to opt out from playing in the US open. She felt frustrated and devastated. After she won in Wimbledon in early July, she injured her foot with a broken glass while she ate at a restaurant. She was required to have surgery which happened in mid July. Since then, she had to forego 4 tennis events that she normally would join in. This made her fans in the US sad because Serena was a top favorite in winning this year’s Open. This also meant that she and Venus her sister, will not be competing in the doubles tournament to defend their last year’s title. Venus, who is also suffering from an injured knee, will be competing in the singles division.
