Staying fit as you age is not only a worthy goal, it is crucial to your health and longevity. When the days of youth are past, those days when you could eat anything you wanted to eat at any time of the day or night and seemingly not have it affect you, it is time to get serious about a healthier lifestyle. Actually, it is never to early to begin a routine of healthy eating and exercise but when you are young it seems to take a while for the consequences of bad lifestyle choices to catch up with you. They do, however, eventually catch up.
While it is a fact that metabolism slows down as one ages and it becomes more difficult to burn calories, there is still a lot that one can do to stay healthy and fit. Making exercise a part of your daily routine is extremely important if you hope to stay active and able to participate fully in life.
A recent article told of a 61 year old woman living in Wisconsin who had been doing yoga combined with cardio exercises nearly every day of her life for the past 40 years and the results have been amazing. She not only looks much younger than her actual years, more importantly, she FEELS young and fit. She is able to keep up the pace of her busy life without difficulty and still enjoys doing nearly all of the things that she always enjoyed. In contrast, there are a good many other individuals who are a decade younger than this Wisconsin woman who are unable to enjoy life to the full extent because their bodies will no longer allow them to do that. They are suffering from bad choices made over the course of their lives which have robbed them of their well-being.
The good news is that it is never too late to begin a routine of healthy living. The body is an amazing instrument and it responds positively when it is given what it needs. If you are not one who has been faithful about exercising and healthy eating in the past, now is a good time to turn things around and head in the direction of good health and physical fitness.
