Winter Olympics Only Days Away

Now that SuperBowl 44 is over, all the attention is now turned to the Olympic winter games that will start this Friday at Vancouver, British Columbia. The host country Canada seems like they have a strong showing and is competing to “own the podium”. No doubt, with their contenders like Clara Huges for long track speed skating, Steve Podborski for downhill and Jessie Vetter, the Sportswoman of the Year for her wins in hockey, Canada stands a good chance of bringing home the medals.
While counting the potential winners, we can’t overlook the giants of the winter games, Russia, Norway and Germany. The 3 countries are certain to make a stand of their own with the efforts of their gifted athletes like Kati Wilhelm, Magdalena Neuner, EvgeniMalkin, Emil HegleSvendsen and Alex Ovechkin. Ovechkin is considered to be the best hockey player in the world.
Team USA will not settle for anything less. They have 31 former medalists returning to the arena and 84 participants who already competed in at least one Olympics. The US team landed 2nd in the last winter Olympics 2006 in Torino, Italy and 3rd in the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. They hope to do well in this year’s Olympics with the talents of their athletes Lindsey Vonn, Shaun White, Shari Davis and ApoloOhno.
